Generation No. 1
1. Sergeant Peter1 Yost died 1781 in
Barnstable County, Massachusetts. He married Mary Smith March 20,
1773 in Sandwich, Barnstable County, before the Reverend Abraham Williams.
She was born July 25, 1755, and died October 14, 1836.
Peter Yost was called Sergeant Peter Yost.
Peter Yost served as a Sergeant in the Massachusetts Militia during the
Revolutionary War and took part in the campaign at Ticonderoga as well as
other brief campaigns in the neighborhood of Cape Cod. Where he came from
is not known. He did not enter Massachusetts by sea for no Yosts are
recorded as immigrating into the state during this period. It is possible
that he was a native of Pennsylvania and came to Massachusetts with one of
the Pennsylvania militia units which saw service in that state during the
Revolution.
He was "of" Barnstable, Massachusetts, and may have died
there. He died, possibly,
1781, although he is listed as remarrying March 6, 1800 in the Peter Yost
II family bible.

1800 in Sandwich., daughter of David Chase and Salome Kelley. She was born
September 23, 1781 in Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, and died
May 08, 1813 in unknown. He married (2) Eleanor Fults May 24, 1814

Evening at Six oClock May 24 day Yeair 1814.. She was born May 22, 1789 in

Peter Yost Jr. was baptized with his two sisters, Elizabeth Mary and
Amelia, at Sandwich November 11, 1781.

According to family tradition, Peter Yost was a shipwright but there is
no record substantiating this. Also, it is tradition that he was a
wheelwright and a Universalist minister.
Peter Yost had 7 children by his first wife, Abigail Chase and 6
children by his second wife, Eleanor Fults.

of Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts.
Family bible of Peter Yost II says Phebe Yost born "in the state
of N.Y." also "about Sept. 1812".
William Howard Smith worked as a
Lawyer. He was admitted to the bar February 16, 1843 - State of Indiana,
Franklin County, Court at Brookville, Indiana.
William Howard Smith had two wives. The
first was Phebe Wing Yost. He and Phebe had four known children. The
second wife was unknown. He and his second wife had six known children.

7th Circuit and Southern District of Ohio April 4, 1865.
He ran for Congress on a Liberal Party Ticket in Utah (from a Salt Lake
City paper).

of verse published. He spent most of his adult life in Mexico and South
America and the southwestern USA.

Martha Josephine (Fletcher) McCourt earned a Bachelor of Arts at the
University of Wisconsin. Her major was English Literature. After
graduation from the University of Wisconsin, she taught 3rd grade for one
year during her engagement to James Earl McCourt. After James earned his
B.S. in Chemical Engineering they moved to Camas, Washington for twelve
years, where he worked for Crown (?) Zellerbach Paper Corp. He then
transferred to Crown (?) Zellerbach's Oregon mill in 1962.
