He married MARIA ELIZABETH SCHNEIDER 31 October 1749, in perhaps, Frederick township. She was the daughter of JACOB SCHNEIDER and SARA (?).

She was born ___?____ in Europe, and died ___?____ in , probably, Frederick township.

The names of Johannes Jost's parents are not known. His father may have been named Peter Jost.

Peter Jost (also written Joost), age 55, and Johannes Jost (also written Joanis Joost), age 17, arrived at Philadelphia 9 September 1738 (date qualified) aboard the Glasgow, Walter Sterling, commander. The ship was from Rotterdam, via Cowes. The group of 349 passengers included 120 men aged over 16.

The old records, for the years 1748 to 1854, were translated from the German script by William J. Hinke in 1940. These records have not been published but the translation is available in two manuscript volumes, prepared by Hinke in September 1940. At the time I examined this translation, on 9 May 1964, it was owned by the Historical Society of the Evangelical and Reformed Church which was housed at Franklin & Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Daniel Jost was born at Frederick township, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania, the son of Johannes and Maria Elizabeth (Schneider) Jost.

He married Barbara Hillegas (or Hillegass) on 7 February 1786 at Faulkner Swamp Reformed church, New Hanover, New Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Daniel Jost was a well educated man and a public-spirited citizen. He served as justice of the peace of Marlborough township, Montgomery county, Pennsylvania and later held the same office in Brunswick township, Berks (now Schuylkill) county. In 1811, upon the organization of Schuylkill County, he was commissioned an associate judge by Governor Simon Snyder.

He was a member of the Reformed church.

Daniel Jost died on 2 November 1839 at Brunswick township, Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania, aged 80, and is buried in Christ Church cemetery at McKeansburg, Schuylkill county, Pennsylvania.

The Josts resided in New Goshenhoppen, Pennsylvania and had at least 10 children.

8. JACOB³ YOST (JOHANNES² JOST, JR., JOHANNES¹) was born 01 March 1786 in Unknown, and died 30 November 1814 in Frederick township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, age 2-8-0..

The baptism record of Jacob Jost, son of John Jost and his wife Bina (Benigna), says that Jacob was born 1 March 1786 and baptized 9 April 1786. The sponsors were Jacob Schellenberger and his wife Christine. The Rev. Frederick Daelliker, V.D.M. Turicensi (of Zurich) performed the baptism. See William J. Hinke's translation of the church records of the Falkner Swamp Reformed Church, New Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania for the years 1748 to 1854, p 49. Christine Schellenberger's maiden name was Jost. She was a sister of Jacob's father, John, and hence was Jacob's aunt.

For Jacob Yost's death records, refer to Faulkner Swamp Refomed church records. According to the records of deaths and burials during the ministry of Rev. Frederick Herman, Jacob Yost died (or was buried) Nov. 30, 1814, aged 28 yrs, 8 mos and 0 d. His parents are not named. See page 215 of Hinke's translation. If you subtract 28 years and 8 months from Nov 30, 1814, you will get March 30, 1786 but he was actually born 1 March 1786.

Jacob Yost died intestate, leaving two minor children, Rachel and Catherine. See Montgomery County Orphan's Court file #20965. Jacob Hauck was appointed administrator. His personal estate was appraised 8 February 1815. See Montgomery County Registrar of Wills file #17898. His nine acres of land were sold 10 December 1817 to his brother, Thomas Yost. See Montgomery County Orphan's Court file #21089.

Notes for DANIEL J. YOST:

He is buried beside the remains of two generations of Yosts, in Christ church cemetery, at McKeansburg.

As a young man, he learned the milling trade, to which business he devoted the greater part of his life. In later life, he operated a general store in McKeansburg.

He was a consistent member of the Reformed church, as were his father, grandfather and great-grandfather before him.

The Rev. Calvin D. Yost, was a man of cultural attainments, a college professor and a public servant. Reverend Yost added much to the character of his community by rendering it valuable service. Not only was he devoted to religious and educational pursuits, but to the civic interests of Collegeville, Pennsylvania, where he resided.
